Are you a caring and proactive EYFS Teaching Assistant looking to support pupils with additional needs in Reception and Year 1?
About the RoleLong Term Futures are working with a welcoming mainstream primary school in NG9 to appoint a dedicated EYFS Teaching Assistant. This full-time role involves supporting pupils across Reception and Year 1 with a range of special educational needs including autism, speech and language difficulties, and developmental delay.
You will work both 1:1 and in small groups to build early communication, emotional regulation, and learning through structured play. A nurturing, calm and adaptable approach is essential, along with experience supporting young children with SEN.
Key Responsibilities
Support Reception and Year 1 pupils with speech, language, and communication needs
Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions using visual aids and structured play
Use tools like Makaton, visual timetables, and consistent routines
Assist with personal care where necessary
Encourage independence and engagement within the classroom and routine
Collaborate with teachers and the SENCO to deliver targeted support
Contribute to a calm, inclusive, sensory-aware learning environment
What We're Looking For
Level 2/3 Early Years or Teaching Assistant qualification
Experience supporting SEN in EYFS or Key Stage 1 (especially autism and communication needs)
Makaton training or confidence using alternative communication strategies
Comfortable supporting with personal care needs
Calm, patient and empathetic with a flexible attitude
Confident working collaboratively in a team and using initiative
