Job Title: Existing Business Underwriter

Salary: £40,000 - £47,500 per annum - depending on experience

Location: City of London

PURPOSE OF ROLE

• To build and maintain strong broker relationships while delivering a high level of service within agreed SLAs. You'll work collaboratively with the team to support Private Clients / HNW business, ensuring excellent customer outcomes and compliance with regulatory standards.

DAY TO DAY

• Provide renewal invites to brokers within SLA deadlines.
• Action mid-term adjustments and cancellations promptly.
• Handle broker calls in a professional and friendly manner.
• Work through renewal queries to maximise retention.
• Operate within underwriting licence and refer cases appropriately.
• Support colleagues by acting as a referral point when needed. 

RESPONIBILITIES

• Build and maintain professional relationships with brokers.
• Deliver a collaborative underwriting approach using both underwriting guides and senior colleague expertise.
• Take initiative to improve processes and contribute to wider team goals.
• Ensure compliance with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles and regulatory standards.
• Promote positive outcomes for customers through fair and pragmatic underwriting decisions.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 2 years' Private Client / HNW underwriting experience.
• Proven ability to manage renewals, MTAs, and cancellations within strict SLAs.
• Background in working with brokers and building long-term relationships.
• Familiarity with compliance requirements in the insurance sector.

SKILLS

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent organisational ability with the capacity to prioritise and meet deadlines.
• Strong commercial underwriting knowledge.
• Problem-solving mindset with ability to perform under pressure.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and a strong team player.
• (Desirable) Dip CII or ACII qualifications or working towards.
