If so, this might be the role for you…I'm working with Newham 6th Form College (NewVIC) to find them an experienced exam specialist (current or aspiring Exams Manager).

NewVIc is one of London's largest sixth form colleges based in Newham (E13 8SG).

The college recently celebrated its highest ever A-level pass rate of 98% and sends more students from disadvantaged backgrounds to university than any other sixth form college in England.

The exam department has been through a period of change so they're looking for a strong leader to bring the team together whilst also playing a hands-on role in managing the exams process including regulatory compliance.

You will have support from an Exams Officer and two Exams Assistants. As well as an external exams consultant with a wealth of exams experience.

This would suit an experienced exams specialist ready to make a big impact in an ambitious sixth form college.

Important Details:

  • A starting salary of £45,882 progressing to £47,914 plus a Market Forces Supplement of £5000 Exams manager job.
  • All year round.
  • 36 hours a week approximately 08:00 - 16:00 Mon to Fri.
  • The role is fully on-site.

Duties of the Exams Manager:

  • Collaborate with other managers for top-notch service provision.
  • Lead Electronic Data Interchange in the department.
  • Manage exam boards, conduct assessments, and meet deadlines.
  • Supervise and train internal and external invigilators.
  • Ensure accuracy of data input for exams.
  • Perform integrity checks on received and input data.
  • Assist in information output in electronic and paper formats.
  • Input precise Student and Exams information.
  • Aid in developing and implementing administrative systems.
  • Handle various tasks including budget management, exam scheduling, and special arrangements.
  • Process and issue learner results electronically and in paper form.
  • Stay updated on exam board requirements, college policies, and deadlines.
  • Train and oversee staff involved in exam functions.
  • Lead implementation and improvement of procedures.
  • Provide professional support to students, staff, and external bodies.
  • Ensure accurate recording of achievement data in the ILR.
  • Stay current with JCQ ICE regulations and ensure compliance.

The Exams Manager Must Have/Be:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent.
  • A Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Windows packages like Microsoft Office and Google services.
  • Experience with exam data management and entry creation.
  • Familiarity with Student Record Systems and Electronic Data Interchange systems.
  • Knowledgeable about JCQ requirements for conducting exams.
  • Can work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines with high accuracy.
  • Organised approach to work.
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in planning, scheduling, and monitoring own work.
  • Experienced in leading a team.
  • Dedicated to NewVIc's mission, values, and overall college development.
  • Understanding of and commitment to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults.

An Advantage but not Essential:

  • A degree.
  • Familiarity with Prosolutions Exams module.
  • Experience in leading an exams team, ideally in a further education setting.
  • Experience in planning and overseeing large-scale exams, including room allocation, invigilation, and managing access arrangements for diverse exams.
