Your new companyAn established and well-respected civil engineering and groundworks contractor based in Derby with nationwide operations and a strong reputation in the infrastructure and commercial sectors. This multi-accredited contractor works on a variety of low to high value projects for both public and private sector clients, and their commitment to delivering an exceptional standard of work has positioned them as a leader in the industry. Due to continued success, they are actively seeking an Estimator to join their high-performing team.
This is a full-time permanent position based out of their Derby office.
Your new roleAs an Estimator, your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the estimating function for civil engineering and groundworks projects
- Reviewing tender documentation, drawings and specifications to fully understand project requirements
- Preparing cost estimates including materials, plant, labour and subcontractors
- Identifying and evaluating project risks, opportunities and value engineering options
- Managing and coordinating subcontractors and supplier enquiries, ensuring competitive quotations are obtained
- Leading tender adjudication meetings, presenting costs, risks and commercial considerations to senior management
- Supporting bid submissions with written methodology, programme input and supporting documentation
- Liaising with clients, consultants and supply chain partners during pre- and post-tender negotiations
- Ensuring all estimating activities are carried out in compliance with company procedures
- Supporting handover to operations teams on successful tenders, ensuring clarity of scope, risks and assumptions.
What you'll need to succeedIn order to be successful, you must have:
- Proven experience in estimating within civil engineering and/or groundworks, ideally with a main contractor
- Sound understanding of construction methods, sequencing and programming
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously and work to deadlines
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
