Energy and Sustainability Officer

  • Hourly Rate: £31.26 Umbrella / £23.20 PAYE 
  • Location: Hackney, London
  • Job Type: Temporary (Ongoing)

Join our NE London local authority's Property and Asset Management team as an Energy and Sustainability Officer. This role offers a proactive and passionate individual the opportunity to make a significant impact on the community by delivering key housing energy and sustainability projects. You will contribute to improving the energy efficiency of homes, enhancing air quality, and promoting sustainable living among residents.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide strategic advice, research, and monitoring for energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of technical standards to enhance the energy efficiency and sustainability of the housing stock.
  • Promote energy efficiency initiatives to Council tenants and leaseholders to help tackle fuel poverty.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide strategic performance reporting on the sustainability of the Council's housing stock.
  • Contribute to bids for resources to increase investment in energy efficiency projects.
  • Offer expert advice and guidance on sustainability issues to colleagues, councillors, and residents.
  • Stay updated with best practices and changes in housing-related energy legislation and regulations.
  • Produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for the Council's housing stock.
  • Assist with the management of effective heat metering and billing systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability standards, legislation, and best practices related to domestic housing.
  • Experience in developing technical specifications; project management experience is desirable.
  • Relevant minimum professional qualification, such as a degree in Environmental Science or a building-related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to prepare technical briefs and specifications, analyse data, and build positive working partnerships.
  • Capability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to attend evening meetings as required.
