Job Description - Electronics Engineer:

We’re looking for an Electronics Engineer who can act as a hardware expert for the EMS division. You will have had exposure and knowledge of electronics design and hard infrastructure. We anticipate you to have good knowledge and experience of general electrical systems, as well as some exposure and awareness of the world of heating, metering, and building management. You will have experience of working with a wider engineering team alongside a software department, ideally using the Agile methodology.

What you will be doing:

You will be a key subject matter expert for all things hardware and with compatibility/ integration to other products and services. You will be working alongside the other members of the hardware team and responsible for the delivery of roadmap items that will enhance the product, such as the delivery and integration of new hardware types and configurations. There is a real opportunity for growth in the role as the business and department expands to support our growing customer base.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To lead the design and development of hardware components and embedded software
  • To own and deliver technical strategy items in line with the roadmap
  • To ensure products are tested and meet specification to achieve optimized energy usage
  • Lead and implement problem solving to embed a culture of continuous improvement
  • To ensure products are fully documented
  • Provide direction to the Engineers on standards, systems and processes
  • Share knowledge and information with the wider team, enabling others to better undertake their roles
  • Advise Project and Operational Stakeholders on engineering best practice and compliance
  • Identify and develop strategic plans to bring the products to market
  • Identify opportunities for product enhancements
  • Ensure H&S and legislative compliance

  • Good knowledge of the electrical installation, the energy market and control systems
  • An interest in energy savings and societal transition to net zero

Expected Skills:

  • Electrical installation experience or awareness
  • Knowledge and experience of Linux operating systems
  • Some level of experience in networking, infrastructure (AWS) and security (SSH, OpenVPN)
  • Version control (git)
  • Instrumentation knowledge
  • Embedded electronics and programming using the C language

Desirable Skills:

  • A focus in refining specifications and tickets to deliver maximum output for minimum effort
  • Software development (ideally JavaScript/TypeScript, node, mongo)
  • A desire to document and share output of features and investigations
  • Able to communicate actions and plans to team, senior management and customers
  • Self-motivated with a proactive mindset
  • A flexible and pragmatic team worker who supports their colleagues
  • Experience working alongside a dedicated software team
  • HVAC knowledge and experience
