The UCL Estates Operations team manages a property portfolio of of over 645,000m2 of diverse real estate on behalf of UCL, supporting over 48,000 student's and nearly 15,000 staff. Managing an in house UCL workforce of 250 staff with a contractor workforce of over 1000, the primary function of the Maintenance division is to provide all Facilities Management services including , cleaning, cleaning, security and maintenance.

About the role

We are recruiting for an Electrician to join our Estates Operations Team. Reporting to the M/E Response Manager, the successful candidate will carry out reactive and planned electrical maintenance and repairs to high standards of safety, customer service and efficiency.

You will work across a range of programmed, planned and reactive works on building services, systems, infrastructure, plant and equipment. You will investigate, diagnose and repair faults, respond to breakdowns, faults and service request calls, and will assist other members of the multidisciplinary team in completing diagnostic and remedial work. Additionally, you may carry out testing, prepare equipment and plant for statutory inspection and install and remove temporary installations as needed.

This role will be based onsite at our Bloomsbury Campus.

About you

To excel in this role you need to have completed a recognised craft apprenticeship (e.g. City and Guilds 2360 parts 1 and 2 or equivalent, 18th Edition Wiring Regulation). You should have previous work experience in a craft and mechanical trade based team, knowledge of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems and experience in, and the ability to monitor plant status, interpret alarms etc.

You will need to be able to undertake basic fault finding using diagnostic equipment, BMS, electrical drawings, manuals and personal experience, and an awareness of plant specific checks following power interruption. You are a good communicator, comfortable working as part of a team and interacting with people at all levels, from colleagues to customers, and you have a proven ability to work independently within a complex institution.
