Job Description :

We're currently looking for an Electrical Investigations Technician to join our Product Assurance Team. If you're someone who enjoys dismantling tech to understand it, gets satisfaction from solving problems, and wants to be at the heart of innovation in smart metering and energy devices-this could be your perfect fit.

In this role, you'll work closely with a wide range of metering and smart energy assets-from legacy equipment to the latest in EV charging and renewable tech. You'll investigate, test, and assure products before and after they're deployed, playing a vital role in protecting customers, improving reliability, and supporting our transition to net zero.

This is a role for someone who's hands-on, inquisitive, and enjoys understanding the "why" behind a fault or failure.

Here's a taste of what you'll be doing:

  • Investigating faults in gas, electric, and EV charging meters, identifying root causes and hardware issues.

  • Evaluating new and refurbished smart metering assets to ensure they meet technical, safety, and national standards.

  • Providing insight and recommendations to help us determine which products should be included in E.ON's portfolio.

  • Liaising with manufacturers to discuss findings and shape product improvements.

  • Supporting testing projects, building custom rigs or setups, and developing instructions for field teams.

  • Delivering technical reports, sharing knowledge across teams, and helping train staff on asset functionality.

  • Representing the Product Assurance team in cross-departmental meetings and external engagements.

Are we the perfect match?

We're looking for someone who loves figuring things out, working with their hands, and learning through doing. You don't need to know everything on day one-but if you've got an investigative mindset and a knack for technology, we want to hear from you.

  • A solid understanding of electronic product function testing and the ability to follow structured test scripts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • A methodical approach to investigation and testing.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly to a range of audiences.

  • A valid passport (occasional travel within the UK and abroad may be required).

  • Self-motivation and a genuine interest in learning and contributing to the team.

It would be great if you had:

  • Hands-on experience assembling or testing electronic components or PCBs.

  • Experience working with complex electronic or smart energy devices.

  • An NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (or equivalent), 18th Edition certification, and ideally 2391A.

  • Exposure to or interest in EV charging technologies.
