EDM Machinist - Elevation Recruitment Group : Job Details

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading manufacturing business in Leeds to recruit a EDM Machinist to lead a small team.

This is a hands-on leadership role, overseeing the EDM production area and ensuring safe, efficient operations while meeting strict quality and delivery targets. Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Director, you will combine technical expertise with people leadership, developing your team and driving continuous improvement across the function.

Job Role: EDM Machinist – Lead

Salary: £35,000 – Increasing following successful completion of probationary period

Location: Leeds

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing EDM production team
• Deliver training on EDM programming, setup, safe operation, and continuous improvement techniques
• Organise daily workload and machine allocation, working closely with Planning
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions
• Maintain ERP/MRP system accuracy for shop-floor data
• Champion Health & Safety, 5S, and risk assessments within the department
• Drive Continuous Improvement through Lean, SMED, and waste-reduction initiatives

Person Specification:

• Proven experience leading a team in a machining/manufacturing environment
• Strong technical knowledge of EDM programming, setup, and operation
• Excellent leadership and coaching skills, with experience in developing apprentices and operators
• Confident in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and implementing process improvements
• Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and quality assurance
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems would be advantageous
