Our client is a well-established and respected environmental consultancy based in Manchester, seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Ecologist to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ecology professional looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in delivering a wide range of exciting and meaningful projects across the UK.

About the Role

As a Senior Ecologist, you will lead and support ecological surveys, assessments, and reporting across a variety of sectors. You'll contribute to project design, manage field teams, liaise with clients and stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of high-quality ecological outputs on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a range of ecological field surveys (e.g. habitat, protected species).

  • Prepare high-quality technical reports including PEAs, EcIAs, and mitigation strategies.

  • Support and mentor junior ecologists and oversee fieldwork delivery.

  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and client communication.

  • Contribute to ecological design, impact assessments, and biodiversity enhancement initiatives.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ecological legislation, best practice, and policy developments.

About You

You'll be an experienced ecologist with strong technical and project management skills, and a passion for delivering sustainable environmental outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in ecological consultancy.

  • CIEEM membership (Associate or above).

  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and ecological assessment.

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.

Desirable:

  • Protected species licences (e.g. bats, GCN).

  • Experience in habitat management and biodiversity net gain.

  • Line management or mentoring experience.
