Salary: Pro rata - £27,131 per annum FTE £38,834 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The Role

The College has over 400 staff dedicated to supporting World Class education. The College currently is one of the top State Schools in the Country and is recognised as one of the highest performing State Schools in the East of England, this is backed up by its most recent Ofsted inspections which rated the College as Outstanding in both Education and Boarding 2023.

The College is focused on providing outstanding quality to their students and staff not only in education but also through its provision of exceptional facilities and accommodation on site across its 83-acre campus.

They are seeking to employ a Duty Manager to their catering team. This is a new role at the College and will be responsible to the Catering Manager and assist in the day-to-day management of the Catering department. They will be a first point of contact in communications with College staff, students and visitors.

The Duty manager is responsible for managing the front of house catering staff. They will ensure that appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times to ensure efficient and effective catering service in line with the College’s standards of customer expectation, quality and presentation, whilst complying with legislation and financial targets.. The Duty Manager will also be responsible for weekly catering requisitions and bookings relating to the catering department. On appointment, the successful candidate will be required to complete a six-month probationary period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage front of house catering staff over the College academic year to ensure appropriate staff levels for core activity & requests.
  • Ensure a smooth running of Day-to-Day catering operations for meal services, functions & requests held during the College terms.
  • Manage weekly catering requisitions and bookings, relaying information to relevant catering teams and departments.
  • Ensure recharges to college departments are processed, up to date and complete according to budget procedures and internal process.
  • Ensure team timesheets are checked, complete and submitted appropriately.
  • Communicate and log maintenance issues with internal and/ or service contract providers to ensure all equipment is fully maintained, repaired and safe to use.
  • Process all food & non-food supplier invoices, delivery & credit notes ready for approval via college finance department.
  • Monitors stock control, rotation and records
  • Ensures kitchen hygiene requirements are met
  • Ensures Health and Safety at work requirements are met
  • Training new and existing staff in conjunction with the Catering Managment team

The professional competencies expected of a Duty Manager are:

  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Have good oral and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with all staff and students
  • Have excellent people and customer service skills.

The qualifications and previous experience required for a Duty Manager are:

  • Have previous experience in a busy kitchen, with an in-depth knowledge of food preparation, production and service;
  • Have previous supervisory / team leader experience with a sound track record of managing a team
  • Have previous experience of training staff
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy;
  • A good knowledge of Health and Safety and Food Hygiene regulations in relation to food preparation, service and storage.
