Salary: £90,000 - £95,000 per annumContract type: PermanentLocation: South East

A dynamic and forward-looking not-for-profit organisation with a strong national presence is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead its finance function. This is a pivotal role, providing financial leadership, driving process improvements, and enabling the organisation to deliver its mission.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead the Finance team and oversee all core financial operations. This includes financial planning, reporting, controls, and compliance, while driving efficiency and enabling informed decision-making across the organisation.

You will play a key role in embedding robust FP&A processes, strengthening financial governance, and supporting change programmes that improve financial outcomes. A proven leader, you will mentor and develop the team, while also building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and external partners such as auditors and regulators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of financial management including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Deliver timely, accurate financial reports and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Drive improvements in systems, processes, and controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Oversee financial planning and tax compliance, ensuring governance standards are met.
  • Partner with senior leaders across business units to align financial operations with organisational objectives.
  • Provide leadership, development, and direction to the finance team.
  • Manage external relationships with auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
  • Champion risk management strategies and contribute to wider organisational change initiatives.

Essential experience:

We are looking for a qualified finance leader (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with extensive experience in a senior finance role. You will have:

  • A strong track record in financial planning, reporting, and transformation.
  • Deep knowledge of accounting standards, compliance, and governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, managing, and developing finance teams.
  • Expertise in embedding financial controls, risk management, and process improvements.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial analysis, systems, and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage non-financial stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, solutions-focused approach with resilience in the face of change.
