Role: Head of Data EngineeringLocation: London (Hybrid - 1 day per week in-office)Salary: £110,000 - £120,000 + 10% Bonus + Share Options

A high-growth, product-focused scale-up in the financial services space is hiring a Head of Data Engineering to lead and evolve their core data platform. This is a hands-on leadership role with the opportunity to shape both the technical architecture and the team as the business enters its next phase of growth.

You'll be responsible for owning the entire data function - setting the strategic direction, developing the team, and delivering a reliable, scalable, and modern data platform that underpins key decisions across the business.

This is a great opportunity for someone who's already acting as a Head of (in title or in practice) or a seasoned Data Engineering Lead ready to step up into a broader leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of Data Engineers (currently four people)

• Own and evolve the end-to-end data architecture, including ingestion, transformation, and governance

• Collaborate closely with Product, Analytics, and Data Science to deliver business-critical solutions

• Drive best practices around CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and modern data tooling

• Introduce and advocate for scalable, efficient data processes and platform enhancements

Tech Environment:

• Python, SQL, Spark, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, Postgres

• AWS (S3), Docker, Terraform

• Exposure to Apache Iceberg, streaming tools (Kafka, Kinesis), and ML pipelines is a bonus

What We're Looking For:

• 5+ years in Data Engineering, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role

• Experience designing and operating modern data platforms in fast-paced, product-led environments

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with technical and commercial teams

• Comfortable leading both strategy and technical delivery

• Background in start-up/scale-up environments preferred

• Technical walkthrough with senior engineering leaders and Head of Data Science

• Take-home technical task

• System design session and stakeholder interviews

• Final behavioural interview with leadership team
