Corporate Tax Manager - SME Focus

Location: Milton KeynesContract Type: Permanent, Full-time

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Corporate Tax Manager to join their growing team in Milton Keynes. This role offers an excellent opportunity to specialise in providing comprehensive corporate tax services to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across various sectors. You will play a key role in helping their SME clients navigate the complexities of corporate taxation while ensuring compliance and optimising their tax positions.

Key ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance & Advisory
  • Prepare and review corporation tax returns for a diverse portfolio of SME clients across multiple industries
  • Provide proactive tax planning advice to help SME clients minimise their tax liabilities within the legal framework
  • Assist with corporate tax computations, including capital allowances, R&D tax credits, and other available reliefs
  • Advise on the tax implications of business transactions, restructuring, and commercial arrangements
  • Support clients with HMRC enquiries and negotiations
SME-Specific Services
  • Develop deep understanding of SME business challenges and tailor tax solutions accordingly
  • Provide guidance on owner-managed business tax strategies, including dividend vs salary planning
  • Advise on succession planning and business exit strategies for SME owners
  • Support clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance and digital record-keeping requirements
  • Assist with VAT registration, returns, and planning for growing SMEs
Client Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with SME clients, acting as their trusted tax advisor
  • Conduct regular client meetings to discuss tax planning opportunities and compliance requirements
  • Provide training and guidance to client finance teams on tax matters
  • Identify opportunities for additional services within existing client relationships
  • Support business development activities and networking within the SME community
Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise and mentor junior tax staff, providing technical guidance and career development support
  • Review work completed by team members to ensure accuracy and quality standards
  • Contribute to the development of tax processes and procedures
  • Stay current with tax legislation changes and communicate updates to the team and clients
Essential RequirementsQualifications & Experience
  • ACA, ACCA, or CTA qualification (or equivalent professional qualification)
  • Minimum 4-6 years of corporate tax experience, preferably in practice
  • Proven experience working with SME clients and understanding their specific needs
  • Strong knowledge of UK corporate tax legislation and compliance requirements
  • Experience with tax software packages (ideally including Sage, Xero, or similar SME-focused platforms)
Technical Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of corporation tax, including complex areas such as group relief, loan relationships, and derivative contracts
  • Knowledge of capital allowances, R&D tax credits, and other SME-relevant reliefs
  • Understanding of VAT implications for growing businesses
  • Familiarity with Making Tax Digital requirements and digital tax compliance

Salary : 50000 - 55000
