Corporate Health & Safety Manager
Location: Catford, SE6
Hours: 30 hours per week
6 Months Contract, with possible extension
Role Overview:
An experienced Corporate Health & Safety Manager is required for a strategic interim position within a large public sector organisation. The postholder will lead the development and delivery of health, safety, and well-being services across all departments, ensuring full statutory compliance, operational resilience, and a strong culture of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on the organisation's health & safety strategy and statutory compliance framework.
- Manage a team delivering occupational health, fire safety, and health & safety advisory services.
- Provide expert advice to senior leaders, managers, and stakeholders on health & safety compliance and best practice.
- Oversee internal audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Ensure safe working environments across all service areas, including commercial estates and capital works.
- Maintain strong governance through regular reporting, committee attendance, and stakeholder engagement.
- Develop and commission relevant training programmes to embed health & safety responsibilities across the workforce.
- Collaborate closely with facilities, estates, HR, and legal teams to ensure regulatory alignment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven leadership experience in a senior health & safety role within a large and complex organisation.
- Demonstrable success in developing and implementing corporate-level H&S policies and strategies.
- Deep knowledge of health, safety, fire and occupational health legislation and codes of practice.
- Strong background in statutory compliance management across diverse property and service portfolios.
- Skilled in performance monitoring, report writing, and formal presentations at board/committee level.
- Experience managing and motivating technical teams and influencing cross-functional leaders.
- Experience working in politically sensitive environments with external regulators and partners.
Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) - essential
- Chartered Member of IOSH (or working towards) - essential
- Degree or equivalent experience in occupational health and safety - desirable
