About The Role:
***This is a temporary post working for a minimum of 12 weeks. This is a hybrid role working 2 days in the office and 3 days at home. ***
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Conveyancing Officer to join our Legal Services team. Reporting to the Principal Lawyer – Property & Contracts and the Legal Services Manager, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality and efficient legal service across a broad range of conveyancing, property, and contract matters.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an "available immediately" legal professional with significant experience in residential and commercial property law to manage a varied caseload and contribute to the success of our legal operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a mixed caseload including Right to Buy transactions, leasehold reversions, licences, lease renewal notices, boundary enquiries, and epitomes of title.
- Handle property disposals and acquisitions on behalf of the Council, including registered and unregistered titles.
- Draft and manage commercial lettings, business leases, licences to assign, rent reviews, and notices under the Landlord and Tenant Acts.
- Prepare agreements for residential properties, including tenancies and licences.
- Liaise with the Finance team on high-value transactions.
- Draft deeds of rectification, easements, wayleaves, release of covenants, and planning agreements under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
- Conduct land registry searches and prepare reports on title.
- Provide legal advice and research on property and land law matters to internal clients.
- Attend internal meetings and advise on property-related issues.
- Use legal software systems to produce documentation based on stored precedents.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders including external solicitors, counsel, internal departments, and councillors.
- Provide cover and support for the Legal Support Officer as required.
- Promote equality in the workplace and in service delivery.
About You:
- Significant legal experience in conveyancing and property law, ideally within a busy legal practice.
- Strong knowledge of land law and contract law.
- Excellent drafting and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage a varied and complex caseload independently.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in legal software and document management systems.
