Construction Tutor (Multi-Skills)
Location: Manchester or Stalybridge
Salary: £28,000–£32,000 (depending on qualifications)
Contract: Full-time, term-time plus 5 days
Start Date: ASAP (urgent backfill)
Role Overview
We are looking for a practical, hands-on Construction Tutor to deliver Level 1–2 multi-skills qualifications to small groups of learners aged 14–19 at Strive’s specialist training centres. Most learners have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, so the role requires a calm, supportive approach and a commitment to creating a nurturing, alternative learning environment.
You will teach both practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory, supporting learners to develop skills in brickwork, woodwork, and general building tasks. This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact on young people who thrive in vocational, relationship-based settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, practical construction lessons in line with qualification and awarding body standards.
- Create a safe, supportive workshop environment that nurtures students’ social and emotional development.
- Plan lessons, assess learner progress, and keep accurate records.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes and work closely with the Lead Construction Tutor.
- Model high expectations and encourage students’ personal growth.
- Attend required training — AET and CAVA qualifications are funded where not already held.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Practical experience in one or more construction trades.
- Ability to work effectively with young people and build positive, professional relationships.
- Strong communication skills, good ICT skills, and a commitment to safeguarding.
- Willingness to work towards teaching/assessing qualifications if not already held.
Desirable:
- Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or in alternative provision.
- AET Level 3 or other teaching/assessing qualifications.

- Mon–Thu: 9.30am–3.00pm
- Fri: 9.30am–2.30pm
- Students on site: 10.00am–2.00pm
