Role Overview

We are looking for a practical, hands-on Construction Tutor to deliver Level 1–2 multi-skills qualifications to small groups of learners aged 14–19 at Strive’s specialist training centres. Most learners have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, so the role requires a calm, supportive approach and a commitment to creating a nurturing, alternative learning environment.

You will teach both practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory, supporting learners to develop skills in brickwork, woodwork, and general building tasks. This is an opportunity to make a genuine impact on young people who thrive in vocational, relationship-based settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, practical construction lessons in line with qualification and awarding body standards.
  • Create a safe, supportive workshop environment that nurtures students’ social and emotional development.
  • Plan lessons, assess learner progress, and keep accurate records.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes and work closely with the Lead Construction Tutor.
  • Model high expectations and encourage students’ personal growth.
  • Attend required training — AET and CAVA qualifications are funded where not already held.
Person Specification

Essential:

  • Practical experience in one or more construction trades.
  • Ability to work effectively with young people and build positive, professional relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, good ICT skills, and a commitment to safeguarding.
  • Willingness to work towards teaching/assessing qualifications if not already held.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or in alternative provision.
  • AET Level 3 or other teaching/assessing qualifications.
Benefits
  • Private healthcare
  • Pension scheme
  • Free on-site gym and parking
  • Wellbeing and counselling support
  • Salary paid year-round (only required to work term-time plus 5 days)
Additional Information
  • Working hours:
  • Mon–Thu: 9.30am–3.00pm
  • Fri: 9.30am–2.30pm
  • Students on site: 10.00am–2.00pm
  • Friendly, values-driven team environment
  • Appointment subject to Enhanced DBS and satisfactory references
  • Temp-to-perm or permanent options available
