Compliance Officer
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Compliance Officer to act as the main point of contact and subject matter expert in relation to complaints, Freedom of Information, Members/MP enquiries, Subject Access Requests and GDPR. This is an opportunity to provide high-level advice and guidance to senior managers, services, and schools, while coordinating governance and compliance activity across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the internal expert for Complaints, FOI, Subject Access Requests, Member/MP Enquiries, and GDPR.
- Provide advice and guidance to senior management, service managers, and schools on governance and compliance issues.
- Log, allocate, monitor and quality-assure responses to FOI requests.
- Support the resolution of Subject Access Requests in line with legislation.
- Monitor and report on complaints, ensuring timely and robust responses.
- Investigate and monitor data incidents, making recommendations to reduce risk and ensure compliance.
- Work with internal teams and external bodies (e.g. Information Commissioner's Office, Legal teams) to resolve compliance issues.
- Produce reports, briefing notes and updates for senior managers and stakeholders.
- Deputise for the Strategy & Governance Manager when required.
Line Management Responsibilities:
- Manage and support a Compliance Apprentice.
- Oversee workload, training and development.
- Ensure delivery of tasks, supporting skill development and progression.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of governance, data protection, and compliance practices.
- Experience handling complaints, FOI, SARs, and GDPR compliance.
- Ability to interpret legislation and provide clear, practical advice.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Experience managing or mentoring staff is desirable.
