Job Location : Buckland Abbey, UK
As a Community Forest Ranger, you’ll be managing the delivery of a woodland creation project at Buckland Abbey, Devon. You’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in the delivery of our Land, Outdoors and Nature strategy with real positive changes for nature and people.
You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings.
What it's like to work hereBuckland Abbey and its estate is approximately 400 acres nestled within the Tamar Valley National Landscape and Dartmoor National Park a stones throw away. Theres a huge diversity rich in natural, cultural and historic heritage. The river Tavy flows through its heart surrounded by extensive mixed woodland and farmland.
Reporting to the Area Ranger, you’ll be part of a small team working at Buckland Abbey. You will be responsible for volunteer management, an active part of this role. This post will be based at Buckland Abbey. To find out more about the property please visit: buckland-abbey
What you'll be doingWe are working in partnership with Plymouth & South Devon Community Forest for our ambitious aim to plant over 20,000 trees, an orchard, 2000 meters of hedgerows and create opportunities to bring people closer to nature. Its an ambitious project which supports our current work across the estate creating a landscape rich in nature for people to enjoy.
You will be at the forefront of managing the practical elements of the project whilst working with volunteers, engaging with stakeholders, and contractors creating new woodland and priority habitat.
You will work alongside our Visitor Experience team to create an engagement plan to support community volunteering and events. Our local communities and visitors to Buckland Abbey are very important to us and we want you to be part of the whole property team and at the forefront of engaging people with our work, leading on positive public relations and using initiatives to welcome and encourage visitors into the countryside.
