The Commercial Manager plays a critical role in driving commercial best practice and service excellence rolling stock. The role will lead the commercial and contractual aspects of a new rolling stock fleet, whilst embedding a collaborative culture with internal and external stakeholders aligned business management framework.
Role - Commercial Manager (Rolling Stock)
Type - Permanent
Location - Canary Wharf, London (4 days onsite p/week, reducing down to 3 days on successful probation)
Salary - £55,000-£65,000 + benefits
Key responsibilities for Commercial Manager / Commercial Manager - Rolling Stock and will not be limited to:
- Responsible for the commercial, operational delivery and monitoring of contracts and supplier performance within Rolling Stock, including in relation to commercial issues arising from warranty claims, train faults, provision of technical support, managing the exercising of rights under the rolling stock maintenance contract and enforcement of contract obligations.
- Actively engage with, support and work with the commercial team as a whole, including Procurement, Finance, Strategy and Legal.
- Provide commercial support to the procurement team on contract lifecycle issues from tender through to award, contract negotiation and ongoing management in relation to contracts for the supply of goods and services in connection with rolling stock, engineering or other aspects of business as required.
- Provide guidance to the engineering team in relation to commercial queries on the operation of the rolling stock contracts and other relevant agreements.
- Review and manage supplier performance against agreed KPI's and contractual obligations, and take appropriate corrective action where required. Specifically, work closely with the stores organisation in Rolling Stock to ensure all contractual and non-contractual performances are continually monitored so as to improve the supply chain process and to look for continued improvements that will benefit the business.
- Key interface for stakeholder engagement throughout the transition phase. The role will work closely with the Rolling Stock General Manager, the Stores Team, Engineering, Procurement, Legal and Finance when developing requirements / specifications, procurement strategies, delivery models, tenders, contracts and budgets.
- Monitor and mitigate risks through proactive compliance measures and maintain robust frameworks for addressing potential challenges.
Key skills and experience required for Commercial Manager / Commercial Manager - Rolling Stock job applicant and will not be limited to:
- Proven experience in managing rolling stock contracts (including Manufacture & Supply Agreements and Fleet Services Agreements / Technical Services & Spares Supply Agreements and overhaul / repair contracts) within complex operational environments. This is likely to have been gained while working for a rolling stock manufacturer / maintainer or for a train operator or leasing company.
- Proven experience of supporting tender processes and negotiating contracts for the supply of goods and services in connection with rolling stock.
- Strong strategic thinking and change management skills, with a track record of embedding cultural and systemic improvements.
- Expertise and proven ability to build and maintain internal and external stakeholder management, with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to build process, policy, tools and systems based upon market and customer intelligence with a view of address both customer internal challenges.
- Strong commercial and financial management skills to oversee the rolling stock implementation and ongoing deployment thereof.
