Commercial Lawyer

Join our Legal and Governance team as a Commercial Lawyer, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality legal services across a broad spectrum of commercial matters. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work from home, with occasional office visits and representation of the Council in meetings and negotiations as required.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide expert legal advice on commercial, contract, procurement, and subsidy control law.
- Lead negotiations and advise on risk issues in major projects and procurements.
- Draft and review contracts, agreements, and legal documentation.
- Advise on TUPE and pensions in service transfers.
- Support the Council’s statutory and strategic functions.
- Represent the Council in judicial reviews and other legal proceedings.
- Mentor colleagues and contribute to training and development.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in legal service delivery.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX with at least three years post-qualification experience.
- Extensive technical knowledge in commercial law.
- Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
- Experience managing legal risk and advising on complex legal matters.
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Confidence in using legal case management systems and IT tools.
