Join our Legal and Governance team as a Commercial Lawyer, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality legal services across a broad spectrum of commercial matters. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work from home, with occasional office visits and representation of the Council in meetings and negotiations as required.

• Provide expert legal advice on commercial, contract, procurement, and subsidy control law.
• Lead negotiations and advise on risk issues in major projects and procurements.
• Draft and review contracts, agreements, and legal documentation.
• Advise on TUPE and pensions in service transfers.
• Support the Council’s statutory and strategic functions.
• Represent the Council in judicial reviews and other legal proceedings.
• Mentor colleagues and contribute to training and development.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in legal service delivery.

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX with at least three years post-qualification experience.
• Extensive technical knowledge in commercial law.
• Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills.
• Experience managing legal risk and advising on complex legal matters.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
• A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Confidence in using legal case management systems and IT tools.
