Commercial Director in Insurance 

Role Purpose

The Branch Commercial Director role will lead teams of Account Executives / Development Executives and be responsible for implementing regional sales and retention strategies. The role is required to motivate, guide and coach a team of Account Executives in order to drive growth through improved retention, cross-sales or new client sales and by doing so contribute to Branch and Regional P&L targets. In the Commercial Director role, you will have overall accountability for the performance of the Account Executives/Development Executives, providing them with development plans, ensuring they are trained and equipped to perform their role, together with supporting them on more complex client issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The primary focus of this role is providing strong, effective leadership of the Account Executive/Development Executive team – up to 8 people – providing them with direction and guidance, in order for them to meet their targets, providing support and guidance on client issues as required.
  • Constantly reviewing the market and relevant sectors to understand new opportunities, performance against competitors in the market
  • Lead and support the team to deliver the best customer outcomes 
  • Lead on all aspects of risk management
  • Work in collaboration with your Branch Director to highlight potential barriers to retention or new sales 
  • Constructively highlight to the Branch Director any operational needs or requirements 

Key Role Accountabilities:

  • Maintain and be accountable for the oversight and delivery of all financial performance of the AE team
  • Will work collaboratively with other colleagues, with responsibility for contributing to the regional development plans and placement strategies to help achieve new business targets in the region
  • Responsible for embedding the mindset of maximising cross-selling opportunities in support of our ‘Untold is Unsold’ initiative
  • Review on an ongoing basis suitability of our products and proposition in line with the current market, future trends and changes and our current and future competition
  • Regularly meet with the Branch Director to contribute to an agreed action plan

Risk Management, Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure that your team adhere to the systems and controls in place to manage the risks to the firm and to comply with the firm’s obligations under the Accountability Framework
  • Responsible for ensuring that the conduct and competency of the AE team comply with procedures and requirements

People & Leadership

  • Inspire and motivate the AE team to deliver the regional, divisional and overall GI strategy
  • Educate, advise, and support their team 
  • Ensure the team have personal development plans in place to help them achieve their career aspirations 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven track record of managing teams to deliver revenue targets within a regulatory framework
  • Demonstrable experience in a management role within insurance 
  • Proven track record of improving business performance, income and employee engagement within regulated environment through effective sales planning
  • Significant, proven experience of managing a P&L Budget
