Clerk of Works

- Job Type: Contract (16 weeks, potential extension)
- Working Hours: Night Shifts. 37 hours per week.
- Hourly rate: £20.19 per hour PAYE.
- To start in Early September
We are seeking a highly experienced Clerk of Works to supervise the construction of a Section 278 Scheme involving the signalisation of a motorway junction. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with approved drawings, traffic management arrangements, permits, and method statements. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working night shifts and possess strong supervisory experience in public highway construction.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Supervise the construction activities, ensuring all works comply with the technical specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Maintain detailed records of construction activities, progress against programme, and constraints, including the productivity of labour, plant, and materials.
- Inspect temporary traffic management arrangements and ensure they meet legal and statutory requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive working relations with contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, and statutory undertakers.
- Compile and present reports, and respond to correspondence as required.
- Make informed decisions, set appropriate targets, and escalate issues as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- HND in Civil Engineering or a similar technical discipline.
- Significant experience in supervisory roles related to construction works on public highways.
- Profound knowledge of Chapter 8 Temporary Traffic Management Regulations, Street Works permitting, and CDM Regulations 2015.
- Experience with NEC3 contract management and project management techniques.
- Full UK driving licence and CSCS card.
- Member of a relevant technical/professional institution or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with strong negotiating skills.
