Role Summary

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager the driver is responsiblefor providing hands on approach to providing comprehensive Delivery and collections. Keep accurate records of mileage, fuel purchases, run sheet information. Delivering goods and collection of pallets. Able to work on their own initiative and feel at ease dealing with a wide range of customers. Ensure that all deliveries are made and instructions followed. Be an efficient, effective and profitable collection and delivery driver for Xtra Express.

Key Activities

To be ultimately responsible for the safe carriage of the load within the vehicle

To ensure that the allocated vehicle or trailer is roadworthy in line with Road traffic regulations

Ensure full compliance with all Tachograph and WTD drivers hours regulations

To maintain all records relating to tachograph and drivers hours legislation and deliver to the transport office within set timescales

To be responsible for the security of the loading and unloading of the vehicles at all times including in transit, stationary and if on overnight stays

Completing the correct documentation when booking goods in and out

Maintaining vehicle cleanliness both inside and out on a regular basis

To ensure all company paperwork and procedures are followed correctly, PODs and all paperwork presented in a tidy and orderly manner at the end of your shift to the debrief desk

Verifying the contents of collection and delivery against delivery/collection and returns paperwork or manifests

Assisting to identify new leads and generate new business opportunities

Reporting delays accidents or other traffic situations to the office

Delivering a friendly and professional service to all out customers

Driving safely whilst obeying all traffic laws and regulations

Complete vehicle inspections to include fuel, oil, water, tyres and lights

Report all accidents immediately

Communicating with customers and office to build strong working relationships

Be able to transport a wide variety of products to different required addresses. Ensuring that full and clear instructions are followed

Ensure routes are carried out the most effective and economical way of delivering

Ensure the compliance to statutory legislation in regard to Health and Safety and Transport rules and regulations

Support the company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint by ensuring all collections and deliveries are routed effectively

Work to tight deadlines

Compete daily debriefs ensuring that all messages are communicated accurately and effectively

Complete any other tasks in line with the transport function as directed by the Tranport Operations Team

Specific performance measurements

All tasks are completed as directed daily, weekly and monthly by your line manager

All deliveries are completed on time

All vehicles are kept to standard agreed with your manager

All tasks are completed accurately

Effective use of company equipment

Report anywhere that looks unsuitable for vehicle to manouver safely

Assesments on foot before taking vehicle into unsafe surroundings potentially causing accidents

Incident/Accident reporting immediately

Adhere to driving hours laws and WTD

Walk around sheets and defects completed daily

Adherence to wearing full uniform and PPE at all times

Loads checked against manifest and signed correctly

Must carry at all time driver CPC, Digitacho and Driving licence

Must be up to date on CPC courses and maintain them as required within the period

Report and changes to circumstance on driving licence

Salary : 34100 - 47500
