Hostel Caretaker, North East London, Temporary for 3 months, £17.73 – £18.54, Immediate start

Are you an experienced Caretaker used to working in temporary accommodation / hostels? Do you have experience of maintaining hostel standards of cleanliness and health and safety e.g. emergency lighting and fire safety checks? If so, this may be the role for you.

A large North East London Local Authority needs a Hostel Caretaker to work across the borough on their stock of temporary accommodation.

Daily tasks:

• Respond promptly to health and safety issues
• Manage keys, room inventories, and storage of residents’ possessions in cases of eviction or abandonment
• Perform minor repairs, maintenance, and general duties including cleaning and painting
• Facilitate access for contractors and professionals
• Support contractors and other professionals with site access
• Keep accurate and up-to-date records of site visits, maintenance, and resident interactions

Ideally you will have:

• Previous Local Authority Caretaker experience
• Strong understanding of temporary accommodation
• Excellent communication skills, especially when working with vulnerable or distressed individuals
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks confidently
• Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and customer service
• Team player able to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners

Additional Requirements:

• Willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, when required.
• Full, clean UK driving licence.
• Enhanced DBS check (preferably on the live update service)
