We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker to join our clients Estates and Facilities Department at a bustling further education college. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the management, upkeep, and maintenance of the college's facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-presented environment for all users.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Support Estates and cleaning staff to maintain all areas of the College, ensuring they are clean, safe, and well-presented.
- Set up rooms and equipment for classes, meetings, or events as required, including college-run examinations in compliance with exam regulations.
- Perform general repairs, basic maintenance, and minor DIY tasks.
- Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and request replacements as needed.
- Liaise with contractors and service providers when on-site.
- Conduct basic plumbing tasks such as unblocking toilets and sinks, installing taps, and other fittings, as well as tiling and grouting.
- Manage furniture repairs, moves, and assembly.
- Respond to urgent health and safety hazards with temporary fixes.
- Carry a site radio at all times and respond promptly to calls for assistance.
- Conduct routine inspections of the campus, reporting all health and safety hazards and maintenance issues to the Estates team.
- Supervise maintenance contractors on college campuses in collaboration with the Estates team.
- Conduct weekly fire alarm tests.
- Ensure all buildings and rooms are secured after use in accordance with College procedures.
- Support the college's carbon reduction programme and implement energy-saving initiatives.
- Participate in personal and staff development programmes that meet individual and College needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in caretaking or facilities management, preferably within an educational environment.
- Proficient in performing general repairs, basic maintenance, and minor DIY tasks.
- Good communication skills to effectively liaise with staff, students, and external contractors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental policies.
