Job Description :

Campus Safety Officer who has experience working in a customer focussed environment and resolving situations is required to join our Campus Security Safety Team at Keele University.

SALARY: £15.06 per Hour (inclusive of market supplement) + Generous Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Keele, Staffordshire

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 42 hours per week (12 Hour Shifts 4 on x 4 off basis)

The hours of work are based on 12-hour shifts, on a 4 on 4 off basis, working alternate periods of x4 days, x4 rest days, x4 nights and x4 rest days in rotation. Working hours will normally be based on 6am-6pm days, and 6pm-6am nights.

PLEASE NOTE: You will need a Full Driving Licence

JOB OVERVIEW

These roles represent an exciting opportunity to join Keele University’s Directorate of Student Support and Success. The Directorate consists of a range of specialist services that ensures students are supported and able to thrive within the academic environment, and we are looking for a Campus Safety Officer to support us maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive campus environment for our students, staff and visitors.

As a Campus Safety Officer you will join the Campus Security Safety Team, which is often the first point of contact for calls for service from students and staff on campus. This is a varied and challenging role that requires high levels of customer service and the ability to think dynamically and flexibly, whilst engaging and working alongside other internal and external services and will necessitate strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Campus Safety Officer include:

  • Team Collaboration: Work within a team to provide a 24-hour response service in line with designated working hours
  • Campus Security: Conduct both proactive and reactive patrols on foot and by vehicle, ensuring campus safety and providing a visible, reassuring presence for students and staff
  • Customer Service: Deliver a high standard of customer-focused service in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Risk Management: Dynamically risk assess and prioritise service calls, responding appropriately in line with training and policies
  • First Aid Response: Attend and provide first aid support as required, in line with training
  • Student Welfare: Work with Residence Life Managers to address and respond to student welfare concerns, crises, and call-outs, both in and out of hours
  • Support for Resident Advisers: Assist Resident Advisers in managing student-related issues to ensure appropriate responses
  • Early Intervention: Support the resolution of potential student discipline issues at an early stage
  • Incident Response: Respond to service calls, including emergency incidents requiring engagement with external emergency services
  • Reporting: Complete written or electronic reports
  • Control Room: Receive, triage, and manage responses to calls for assistance/incidents, ensuring appropriate referrals and follow-up actions
  • System Monitoring: Monitor and respond to communication systems and software
  • Event Support: Undertake Campus Support Team duties during university events such as conferences, graduations, open days, enrolments, and demonstrations
  • Traffic Management: Assist with vehicle flow and car park use across the campus

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of successfully resolving challenging/sensitive issues and problems
  • Experience of successfully resolving difficult or confrontational situations
  • Ability to stay calm and react with empathy and professionalism whilst under pressure
  • UK full car Driving licence

DESIRABLE

  • S.I.A Licence (Door Supervisor)
  • Manual Handling Training/Knowledge
  • Fire Safety training/competency
  • First Aid at Work Qualification
  • Experience of working in a similar environment
