Job Description :

As the Buyer you will be responsible for managing spend categories and holding ultimate responsibility for the price, quality, and delivery of goods under that category. You will also be responsible for a variety of procurement activities including preparation of specifications, the bidding process for commodities and contracts, and preparation, renewal, and monitoring of commodity and service requirements contracts.

Key Duties

  • You will develop and implement effective sourcing strategies to achieve excellent on time in full delivery performance to fulfil internal and external customer requirements
  • Responsible for regular price negotiations with suppliers to ensure prices are competitive compared to the previous price paid, current agreements/contracts and the current market prices.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure payments are on time for purchased items.
  • Work closely with Planning to ensure all materials are purchased according to the planned production schedule.
  • Ensure the shelf-life of purchased materials is above the minimum shelf life required.
  • Balance inventory levels with product usage rates to avoid over-stocking.You will propose alternative sourcing plans where required materials are out of stock or have prohibitively long lead-times.
  • Provide updates on sourcing status in relevant meetings/forum.
  • Maintain a database of critical suppliers monitoring their performance and ensure we maintain close relationships with them.

Skills and Knowledge

  • You will have significant experience within commodity and supplier management within various categories at a buyer level
  • Supply chain commercial experience
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering would be beneficial although not essential.
  • Experience using MRP/ERP purchasing systems and processes.
  • Microsoft Excel for data analysis and processing – i.e. pivot tables and VLOOKUP's
  • Experience of dealing directly with suppliers based within the UK and Europe
