  • Location: Kirklees
  • Pay Rate: £350-£450 per day Umbrella
  • Job Type: Temporary, full-time.
  • Contract: Initial 6 months
  • Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Kirklees Council are looking for a Building Safety Manager to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to building safety, particularly for high-risk residential blocks and Retirement Living Schemes. This role is crucial in managing fire and structural safety, compliance risks, and tenant engagement, ensuring the safety of residents.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards for high-risk residential buildings through risk assessments and mitigations.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and systems to manage the “golden thread” of building data for Building Safety Case Reports.
  • Support the delivery of investment and remediation work, communicating effectively with tenants and residents.
  • Establish robust compliance reporting across all areas of risk.
  • Advise the Building Safety Assurance Board and the Accountable Person on any breaches of standards.
  • Develop and deliver the Council’s Fire Safety Management Plan and related fire strategies.
  • Develop a Resident Engagement Plan for each high-risk building, tailored to the needs of the tenants and residents.
  • Manage reporting to the Building Safety Regulator in line with statutory requirements.
  • Keep professional knowledge up to date and ensure complaints handling is built into the Resident Engagement Plan.
  • Lead and engage teams to deliver high-quality service and meet strategic objectives.
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external partners, including the Building Safety Regulator and Fire & Rescue Service.
  • Work with Technical Officers to develop programmes and investment/remediation to meet legislative and regulatory requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience of relevant management level knowledge and experience in Fire & Building/Structural Safety related to Social Housing.
  • Detailed and current knowledge of the built environment.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing dynamic risk assessments to ensure safety in residential buildings.
  • Ability to develop customer-facing Policy and Procedures using technical knowledge.
  • Experience in developing organisational responses to Regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and delivering customer engagements and consultation plans.
  • Experience in data management and maintenance of databases and/or Contact Management Systems.
  • Current knowledge of Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding legislation.
  • Customer-focused with strong team working skills and the ability to achieve results independently.
  • Experience in leading, managing, and motivating teams, including managing team performance.
  • Certificate in asset, building, and/or compliance management (e.g., NEBOSH Fire Certificate/Diploma).
  • Full and valid driving licence is essential.
