Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Building Control Surveyor to join the team on a 6-month contract basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out inspections of building works to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation.

• Assess and check plans, specifications, and calculations.

• Provide professional advice to applicants, agents, and members of the public.

• Investigate and resolve contraventions of Building Regulations.

• Liaise with other departments, external bodies, and stakeholders to support safe and compliant development.

Requirements:

• Proven experience working as a Building Control Surveyor within a local authority or similar environment.

• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, technical standards, and associated legislation.

• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

• Ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines.

• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., RICS, CABE, CIOB) desirable.
