Principal General Building Control Inspector
  • Hourly Rate: £45–£50
  • Location: M60, Manchester

Join our Planning, Licensing & Building Control team within the Growth & Development directorate at the Council. As a Principal General Building Control Inspector, you will lead and deliver complex and specialist building control services across a significant area of responsibility. This role is crucial in providing expert technical consultancy, overseeing major projects, and contributing to strategic and operational objectives.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Act as a subject matter expert in building control, delivering innovative and compliant technical solutions.
  • Lead the design and implementation of frameworks that support effective service delivery.
  • Manage and deliver complex work packages to meet legal, strategic, and customer requirements.
  • Support the development and review of organisational strategies and ensure performance targets are met.
  • Provide operational and strategic input into regulatory inspections and governance processes.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships through effective negotiation and communication.
  • Commission work packages internally and externally to ensure comprehensive decision-making.
  • Promote and embody the Council’s “Our People” approach.
  • Manage assigned resources, including staff, budgets, and other assets, to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Participate in rota-based working, including out-of-hours duties as required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal development and service excellence.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in building control or a related technical field.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks.

  • Ability to manage resources effectively and drive performance.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience in commissioning and managing cross-functional work packages.
  • Familiarity with Public Service Reform principles.
  • Previous experience in a local authority or public sector environment.
