Attendance Assistant

Working Hours: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Duration: ASAP Start - End of Summer Term

We are urgently seeking a temporary Attendance Assistant for an Academy in East London.  The successful candidate will be responsible for managing attendance and punctuality across the school, innovating strategies for improvement, and ensuring efficient enrolment processes. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to uphold the school’s vision and ethos and provide excellent customer service.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage daily attendance registers and maintain related trackers.
  • Create and analyse reports on SIMS to monitor attendance.
  • Support the issuing of fines/penalties for persistent absences.
  • Implement and develop school systems, procedures, and policies related to attendance and punctuality.
  • Raise the profile of improved attendance and behaviour throughout the school.
  • Handle messages from the absence line and contact parents regarding student absences.
  • Work alongside the Attendance Lead to build positive relationships with parents and develop strategies to improve attendance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of registers, collaborating with year teams and colleagues.
  • Proactively seek ways to increase registration completion by staff and share strategies with Senior Leaders.
  • Liaise with Senior Leaders and relevant staff regarding students of concern.
  • Produce attendance reports and follow up on unauthorised absences weekly.
  • Maintain hard copies of official registers for emergency procedures.
  • Contribute to government returns, including Census, with termly attendance and absence statistics.
  • Respond to parent queries regarding their child’s attendance and operate the system for communicating with parents about attendance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in an administrative role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in using SIMS or similar information systems.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to train.
  • Commitment to the school’s policies, including Behaviour for Learning, Inclusion, and Health and Safety.
