Assistant Management Accountant - 12 Month FTCWe are super excited to bring this newly created role to market on behalf of a dynamic and growing organisation based in the heart of Sunderland! This Assistant Accountant position will join a strong and effective finance team on a 12-month fixed term contract, with the potential to become permanent. About the RoleAs Assistant Accountant, you will work closely with management accountants and the finance manager to deliver accurate, timely financial information that supports effective decision-making across the business.Your role will be key in maintaining robust financial controls, ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual requirements, and helping manage business risk. This is a hands-on role that offers varied responsibilities including management accounts, budgeting, procurement, and NHS pension accounting.Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and verify finance system data, including project costing and journal postings
- Prepare quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis, and income reconciliations
- Assist with budget preparation and forecasting alongside accountants
- Support cost-saving initiatives and supplier contract reviews
- Verify property costs in line with contracts
- Produce financial reports to assess ongoing project performance
- Provide mentorship and support to junior finance staff
- Contribute to the development and implementation of financial processes and policies

- Experience in a similar assistant accountant or finance support role
- Strong knowledge of management accounts, accruals, and revenue recognition principles
- Proven ability to work accurately and efficiently under deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Good communication skills to support collaboration across teams and stakeholders
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement in financial processes
