Assistant Accountant - 6-month contract

• Office based 5 days per week Monday to Friday.
• Job Type: 6-month fixed-term contract (potential to become permanent).

• Salary: £35 - £40k per annum equivalent.
• Hours: 9am to 5pm (flex on start to 7am if needed).

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to contribute significantly to our finance operations and grow within a supportive environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Transaction Recording: Accurately process financial transactions including sales, purchases, receipts, payments, journals, and expenses.
• Bank Reconciliation & Petty Cash: Perform regular bank reconciliations and manage petty cash to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage supplier and customer accounts, process invoices, ensure timely payments and collections, and provide support for accounts receivable and credit control functions.
• VAT Returns: Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
• Audit Preparation: Assist with external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor queries.
• Compliance & Regulation: Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations.
• Administrative Support: Handle ad hoc financial and administrative tasks as required.
• Project Work: Contribute to finance-related projects as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a finance or accounting role dealing with journals and intercompany transactions.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good understanding of UK financial regulations and VAT.
• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
