About the role

At DS Smith we have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join us at our Business Service Centre in Caerphilly. This is a great opportunity to learn the end-to-end role of accountancy and we'll also provide funding support for your accountancy qualifications. If you're ambitious, we'll give you the right development to progress into more senior accountancy roles in the future.

The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of a World Class accounting service to respective UK businesses and in accordance with service level agreements, perform general accounting and reporting activities. The position will require an understanding of our business process at each site and interaction with the Procure to Pay and Credit & Collections departments within the Shared Services Centre.

The main duties of the role will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Providing appropriate and timely financial reports covering various metrics as required by site management, including monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • Supporting accountants producing a monthly profit & Loss and Balance Sheet
  • Supporting Group and Divisional reporting requirements
  • Providing routine and ad-hoc analysis as requested by site operations, Finance Business Partners, Division and Group Finance
  • Supporting Annual Planning and periodic forecasting process
  • Processing of standard and non-standard journals
  • Ensuring that all general ledger accounts are reconciled on a timely basis working alongside Accountant
  • Ensuring activities are completed on timely basis to meet reporting deadlines

About you

  • Some experience in a Finance role - Finance Assistant, AP, AR, etc
  • Finance or Accountancy degree/qualification (AAT)
  • Ability to learn quickly and effectively manage your own workload
  • Strong communication skills so that you can work well with your team and customers
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of using SAP or similar ERP system would be advantageous
  • Experience of Operational/Manufacturing reporting would also be desirable

Location:This role is based at our Caerphilly office. We work on a hybrid basis, with 3 days in the office and 2 at home.
