Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with ASD, tailoring activities and interventions to meet their individual needs and learning styles.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement personalised education plans (PEPs) and create a supportive learning environment for students with ASD.
  • Assist students in developing social skills, communication abilities, and independence through structured activities and positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Use visual aids, sensory tools, and other specialised resources to facilitate learning and promote engagement among students with ASD.
  • Support students during transitions between activities and locations, providing reassurance and guidance to help them navigate unfamiliar situations.
  • Monitor students' progress and behaviour, documenting observations and communicating effectively with colleagues and parents to ensure continuity of support.
  • Foster a culture of acceptance, understanding, and inclusion within the school community, raising awareness about ASD and promoting empathy and respect for neurodiversity.
  • Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with ASD or related developmental disabilities, preferably in an educational or support capacity.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of students with ASD.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond effectively to the unique needs and challenges of students with ASD.
  • A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
  • Training or qualifications in autism support, special education, or relevant fields are desirable but not essential.
