What you will do:

  • Begin an exciting journey as a Mechanical Engineer apprentice with us! You'll mainly focus on maintaining the safety, integrity, and effective operation of fire suppression products and equipment. But that's not all!
  • This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while receiving structured training and support. You will work alongside qualified engineers, gaining valuable insights and skills in mechanical engineering within the context of fire suppression systems and equipment.
  • You'll enrol on a 3-year Maintenance and Operation Engineering Technician apprenticeship program - conducted remotely for your convenience - with solid support from your mentor and our dedicated apprentice training team.
  • This field-based position will take you places, literally! Frequent national travel, including overnight stays, is a dynamic part of this role. You'll get to work hands-on at client sites, using a company-provided van, alongside experienced engineers who will help you learn the ropes.
  • Our diverse clientele, including sectors like data centres and food production, will add variety to your work as you ensure the optimal performance of their fire suppression systems and equipment.
  • With comprehensive training in all aspects of mechanical engineering related to fire suppression and detection, you'll be well-equipped to service, test, and repair fire suppression systems and equipment as per relevant standards and specifications.
  • Our apprenticeship structure combines on-the-job work experience with college attendance. The curriculum covers a range of engineering disciplines, focusing initially on core engineering competencies before branching into specialist training for the mechanical engineer position. You'll be guided by experienced Mechanical Engineers, many of whom have completed the same apprenticeship scheme. They'll mentor you throughout the process and teach you the necessary skills to become a successful Mechanical Engineer.

Training and Qualifications:

  • College Attendance: You'll attend college remotely and be enrolled on a 3-year Maintenance and Operation Engineering Technician qualification. You will be enrolled on the Mechanical pathway of this course. This structured education component will complement your on-the-job training, providing you with comprehensive knowledge and skills to become a successful mechanical engineer.
  • Travel and Accommodation: If you're required to stay away from home for college or work-related purposes, the company will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals. This ensures that you can focus on your education and training without financial burden.
  • Driving Licence Requirement: Given the nature of the role and the need to travel to various client sites, you'll need to hold a full UK driving licence. This allows you to fulfil your responsibilities effectively and ensures that you can access different locations as required.

Career Progression:

  • Upon completion, several internal opportunities within the company will be available to you. All of our apprentices immediately move into full time permanent engineering positions.
  • Previous apprentices have become lead engineers, managing their own teams and projects.

Qualifications Required:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade 5)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Math’s (Grade 5)
  • Full Driving License is essential.
  • Due to necessary security clearances required, applicants need to be a British national for the previous 5 years.

  • Availability to travel regularly as this is a field-based role.

What happens next?

  • Suitable candidates will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position and provide necessary documentation. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre in May, assessment centres typically include a combination of activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, and presentations.
  • Within 48 hours of the assessment centre, candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can begin the apprenticeship on September 2, 2024.
