Adult Social Care Lawyer

Rate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOEContract Length: 3-6-month initial contractSouthwest Local AuthorityFlexible Hybrid Working - Advocacy Required

Spencer Clarke Group are working with a Local Authority in the Southwest to recruit an experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their friendly and supportive Legal Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled lawyer to manage a varied caseload of adult social care matters, including complex cases, and to provide expert legal advice to the council and its services.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a busy caseload of adult social care matters, including:
  • Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection work
  • Adult Safeguarding
  • Ordinary residence disputes
  • Care and support funding issues
  • Judicial reviews and policy advice
• Provide clear, timely legal advice to internal clients and senior officers.
• Prepare applications, witness statements, and other documents for the Court of Protection and represent the council in hearings where appropriate.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and guidance, ensuring advice is accurate and compliant.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX Lawyer with a current practising certificate.
• Proven experience handling adult social care legal work, ideally within local government.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and associated guidance.
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
• Strong ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
