Adult Social Care Lawyer
  • Annual Salary: £45,718 - £49,764

  • Job Type: Hybrid (flexibility to work from home and attend the office weekly)

Join our Legal Services team as an Adult Social Care Lawyer, where you will play a crucial role in providing expert legal advice, representation, and advocacy across a wide range of adult social care matters. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence outcomes for some of Sheffield’s most vulnerable residents.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Deliver legal support on complex issues under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Conduct litigation and advocacy in courts and tribunals, including Court of Protection proceedings.
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, statements, instructions to counsel, and settlement agreements.
  • Advise on safeguarding, deprivation of liberty, ordinary residence disputes, and unpaid care home fees.
  • Support the Council’s statutory and strategic functions through high-quality legal advice.
  • Represent the Council at committees, boards, and external meetings.
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or FCILEX with strong technical knowledge in adult social care law.
  • At least three years’ post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in community care law, litigation, and advocacy.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • A collaborative and innovative approach to legal practice.
