Job Description :

The government has announced new funding to support current smokers to quit smoking, with £70 million additional funding per year for local authority-led stop smoking services (SSS) and support.

West Sussex County Council Public Health (WSCC PH) will be receiving approximately £1.075 million for 2024/25, ring-fenced for smoking cessation. Although the exact amount for each subsequent year is yet to be determined, this funding will continue until 2028/29.

We are seeking a skilled Administrator to join the Smoking Cessation service as an integral member of the team, working at the frontline, you will autonomously manage inward referrals for clients wishing to stop smoking.

The Opportunity

Salary: £24,294 to £24,702 per annum.

Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week.

Contract type: 1 x Permanent

Location: Northleigh, County Hall, Chichester and hybrid working from home

Interviews: Friday 21 to Wednesday 26 June (virtual), 2nd stage interviews Monday 01 and Tuesday 02 July (face to face)

The Smoking Cessation Administrator is a customer focused role that will require you to take enquiries from residents wanting to stop smoking via the phone, email or webforms.

This client data will need to be input to the central database and will require you to follow up all enquiries, within a specific timeframe, contacting the client by phone to ascertain their eligibility and discuss with them their treatment options.

You will be responsible for maintaining the input of referrals onto the IT system and allocating clients to specific services or advisors within the service, as well as monitoring the efficient processing and recording of outcomes within a specific timeframe.

What are we looking for?

  • You will need a proven record of working on your own initiative within recognised procedures in a customer facing role.
  • You will have excellent communication skills, both verbally, as this role requires speaking directly to residents to ascertain their needs, and written, as you will be responding to email/webform enquiries.
  • You will need to evidence the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including residents, colleagues and health care professionals.
  • You'll need to be able to work quickly, accurately and proactively to process enquiries and respond appropriately. This will include liaising with the smoking cessation practitioners, Team Lead, Service Manager and wider stakeholders.
  • You will be expected to use your initiative to make informed decisions when unanticipated problems are presented, for example signposting residents to more appropriate services.
  • You'll need to ensure that matters are dealt with efficiently and appropriately, prioritising your workload in order to respond. At times, you may be dealing with sensitive matters and confidentiality will be essential.
