This is a rare opportunity to take on a high-profile leadership role with real influence, overseeing significant claimant litigation and inquest work while guiding and developing a talented team. About the RoleThe successful candidate will take full responsibility for the management and growth of the department, handling a mixed caseload including inquests, complaints against public authorities, and pre- and post-issue claimant litigation. You will also provide supervision, strategic direction, and ensure the highest standards of client service. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the department and managing a small legal team
- Handling your own caseload of complex and challenging matters
- Managing case preparation, legal research, and evidence gathering
- Attending hearings, client meetings, and liaising with counsel
- Overseeing CCMS applications and compliance with Legal Aid requirements
- Negotiating with defendants, the IOPC, and other professionals
- Driving departmental growth and assisting with marketing and business development initiatives
About YouWe are looking for a passionate leader with:
- A minimum of 3-4 years' PQE as a solicitor
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience
- Strong claimant litigation expertise, including judicial review
- Experience in publicly funded work (CW1/Legal Help and Licensed/Certificated Work) and CCMS
- Excellent knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules
- A commitment to protecting civil liberties and human rights
- LAA Supervisor status (or ability to meet the criteria)
