Solicitor Director - Actions Against Public Authorities and InquestsLocation: Multiple offices across England and Wales (Hybrid working available)Salary: Competitive package with excellent benefits A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Solicitor Director to lead its Claims Against Public Authorities and Inquest department. This is a rare opportunity to take on a high-profile leadership role with real influence, overseeing significant claimant litigation and inquest work while guiding and developing a talented team. About the RoleThe successful candidate will take full responsibility for the management and growth of the department, handling a mixed caseload including inquests, complaints against public authorities, and pre- and post-issue claimant litigation. You will also provide supervision, strategic direction, and ensure the highest standards of client service. Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the department and managing a small legal team
  • Handling your own caseload of complex and challenging matters
  • Managing case preparation, legal research, and evidence gathering
  • Attending hearings, client meetings, and liaising with counsel
  • Overseeing CCMS applications and compliance with Legal Aid requirements
  • Negotiating with defendants, the IOPC, and other professionals
  • Driving departmental growth and assisting with marketing and business development initiatives
About YouWe are looking for a passionate leader with:
  • A minimum of 3-4 years' PQE as a solicitor
  • Proven supervisory and leadership experience
  • Strong claimant litigation expertise, including judicial review
  • Experience in publicly funded work (CW1/Legal Help and Licensed/Certificated Work) and CCMS
  • Excellent knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules
  • A commitment to protecting civil liberties and human rights
  • LAA Supervisor status (or ability to meet the criteria)
