Job Description :

Wisdom & Effort is a Manchester-based agency distributing and retailing a number of high-end outdoor/lifestyle clothing brands, including Montbell, Gramicci and KAVU. The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be essential to keeping things running smoothly by ensuring timely cash flow and maintaining strong client relationships. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive person to join our close-knit team. This role is key to processing, tracking, and recording incoming payments, managing client accounts, and supporting the overall financial health of the company.

Objectives of the Role:

  • Optimize financial transactions by reconciling payments and customer accounts
  • Identify and escalate payment discrepancies, overdue accounts, and recommend candidates for collections
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients through professional communication
  • Support continuous improvement of the A/R process and internal controls
  • Ensure integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting, adhering to all relevant regulations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately gather, verify, and process invoices with appropriate documentation
  • Maintain up-to-date accounts receivable records, including credit application, collections, and reconciliations
  • Record daily cash transactions including bank deposits and cash receipt postings in the A/R sub-ledger
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and contact clients via phone, email, or mail to ensure timely collections
  • Prepare reports and analytical summaries to provide insight into collection trends and performance
  • Collaborate with the accounting and leadership teams on cross-functional tasks, including inventory and cost accounting support

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Solid understanding of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping fundamentals
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (highly capable in Excel) QuickBooks (QuickBooks Online Certified), and at least one accounting ERP system (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite)
  • Experience in credit control particularly with international, import/export credit control and invoicing, ideally within a clothing wholesale environment.
  • High level of discretion and integrity in handling confidential information

Preferred (but not essential) Skills and Qualifications:

  • AAT Level 3, 4 or Foundation Level ACCA / CIMA / ACA. We’ll welcome applications from candidates working through accounting qualifications, whatever the level.
  • 1 year or more experience in accounts receivable or accounts payable
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements
