Accounts Assistant

- Salary: £28,000 to £33,000
We are seeking a dedicated Accounts Assistant to join my clients Finance Department. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial data both within and outside their accounting system and assisting in the smooth operation of the department. The Accounts Assistant will also deputise for the Finance Manager, particularly in relation to credit control.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
- Cashbooks Management: Maintain cashbooks, post receipts and payments, and ensure timely and accurate records. Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and generate financial reports.
- Credit Control/Receivables: Manage Sales Ledger/Receivables, liaise with the Sales Department to manage debtor relationships, and conduct credit control meetings.
- Purchase Invoices, Payables, and Expenses: Handle supplier invoices, process payments, and maintain communication with suppliers and internal departments for payment authorizations.
- Sales Ledger: Ensure accuracy in the Sales Ledger entries and liaise with relevant departments to prevent or resolve issues.
- VAT Returns: Prepare and submit VAT returns monthly.
- Accounts Administration: Engage in general administrative tasks including filing, maintaining records, and communicating with customers and suppliers professionally.
- Import and Export Transactions: Assist with the company’s import and export activities.
- Budget Monitoring: Monitor and manage departmental expenses and foreign currency petty cash.
- Assisting Head of the Department: Support with month-end reporting, group reporting, and performance analysis.
- Deputising for the Finance Manager: Take on responsibilities in the absence of the Finance Manager as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in an accounts assistant role or similar.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including double-entry bookkeeping and bank reconciliation.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Good team worker with a flexible attitude towards work.
- Professional telephone and business communication skills.
- Experience with various accounting software and CRM systems is preferred.
