What you'll do:
As an Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for managing a variety of essential financial tasks that underpin the success of the firm's operations. Your day-to-day activities will involve reconciling client accounts, processing payments and receipts, posting disbursements, and maintaining accurate records within the accounts systems.
* Perform daily client account reconciliations to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and compliant with regulatory requirements.
* Post regular disbursements efficiently while maintaining meticulous records for audit purposes.
* Reconcile suspense accounts and maintain effective control over all related financial activities.
* Process receipts and payments for client accounts promptly, ensuring all entries are correctly allocated.
* Raise payments and cheques as required, adhering to internal controls and authorisation procedures.
* Liaise with file handling departments to resolve any queries relating to client accounts in a timely and considerate manner.
* Allocate incoming cheques using the Case Management System, ensuring all funds are tracked appropriately.
* Complete daily postings in the Accounts system, maintaining up-to-date financial records across all platforms.
* Work collaboratively with the wider finance team to achieve departmental deliverables and support shared goals.
* Assist the Financial Controller on various projects as needed, contributing your insights to improve processes.
What you bring:
To excel as an Accounts Assistant in this role, you will bring proven experience from a similar position within an accounting environment. Your background will demonstrate your ability to handle complex reconciliations, process high volumes of transactions accurately, and maintain compliance.
* A minimum of two years' experience working in an accounting role where you have demonstrated reliability and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with the ability to manage spreadsheets effectively for reporting and analysis purposes.
* Comprehensive understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules gained through previous experience in a legal or professional services setting.
* Excellent communication skills that enable you to liaise confidently with colleagues across different departments when resolving queries or sharing information.
* Strong organisational skills combined with effective time management techniques that allow you to prioritise tasks during busy periods.
