Accounts Assistant
  • Annual Salary: £28,000 - £30,000
  • Location: Braintree
  • Job Type: Full-time office based 
  • 9-month FTC (Maternity Cover)

We are currently representing a distinguished family business that specialises in importing, sourcing, and packing a variety of food products such as fruit, cereals, and pulses for both retail and wholesale markets. We are seeking an Accounts Assistant to become a key member of their small, friendly team. This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and the opportunity for a comprehensive training period.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Monitor and record daily cash movements, including reconciliation of Invoice Finance accounts.
  • Create and dispatch sales invoices, credit notes, and debit notes; maintain the sales ledger.
  • Manage daily credit control, actively chasing due debts.
  • Handle the daily purchase ledger—posting invoices, organizing weekly payments, and reconciling supplier accounts.
  • Assist with the management of overseas container documents and processing through the Trade Finance banking system.
  • Support daily stock production input into Sage 200 and address any related queries or errors.
  • Prepare commercial invoices and packing lists for overseas deliveries.
  • Manage petty cash claims and perform monthly credit card statement expense analysis.
  • Report to the accountant at quarter-end regarding any accruals or unposted invoices or charges.
  • Participate in quarterly stock takes, supporting both the warehouse and accounts teams.
  • Produce detailed stock balance and traceability reports for both audit and internal use.
  • Investigate queries and manage the issuance of credit notes.
  • Maintain comprehensive accounts filing.
  • Provide administrative support during team absences.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in an account's assistant role or similar capacity.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, particularly Sage 200.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Keen attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills.
