Location: Felixstowe, Suffolk

About the Company: Our client is a well-established road transport haulier with over twenty years of experience, providing key services such as:

  • Delivery of full container loads (FCL) from port to customers.
  • Retrieval of containers from port, removal of goods, and delivery of less than full container loads (LCL) to customers.
  • Warehousing facilities for customers' goods.

The company is currently undergoing a dynamic transformation period, offering a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to make a lasting impact.

Team Structure: The Accounts Assistant will report directly to the CFO and work alongside three other finance team members. Key stakeholders include the Head of Compliance and the Managing Directors/Owners.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Calculate and process weekly and monthly payroll runs using Sage Payroll.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts through journal postings and month-end schedules.
  • Support other finance functions such as VAT returns and bank reconciliations.
  • Develop and publish reporting suites with the CFO to provide key insights into business performance.
  • Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports to support the finance team.
  • Support the external audit process by responding to queries and preparing schedules.
  • Review systems and processes, recommend changes, and challenge the status quo.
  • Maintain organised records of all financial transactions and documentation.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Comfortable processing payroll within a corporate environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and systematic information processing.
  • Willingness to learn and support areas outside core focus, being a team player.
  • Experience with Sage 50 accounts and payroll software is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing individual responsibilities effectively.
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
