1:1 Teaching Assistant (Braille Specialist)

Here at The Supply Register we are working in partnership with the Swale Academies Trust to appoint a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a partially sighted Year 7 pupil at one of Trust’s secondary schools in Eastbourne.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a young person's educational journey. You will work closely with the pupil, classroom teachers, and the SEN team to provide tailored support that enables full participation in the curriculum.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing 1:1 support during lessons, ensuring accessibility and understanding of content.
• Translating learning materials and classwork into Braille.
• Assisting with the use of assistive technologies and mobility as required.
• Supporting the pupil’s social and emotional development.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Be proficient in Braille, with the ability to read and translate educational materials accurately.
• Have experience working with visually impaired pupils or in a special educational needs (SEN) setting.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
• Be flexible, reliable, and committed to inclusive education.
• Work effectively as part of a team and under the direction of the SENCo and teaching staff.
