1:1 Learning Support Assistant

Academics is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive schools in the Lichfield area to recruit a compassionate and reliable 1:1 Learning Support Assistants. This is a full-time, long-term position through our agency, with the possibility of a permanent role for the right individual.

The Role:

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will be providing tailored support to a specific pupil with additional learning needs. The child may have a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or other special educational needs that require individualised support in and out of the classroom.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 support to a named pupil during lessons, helping them to access the curriculum at their level.
  • Using a range of visual aids, structured routines, and supportive strategies to maintain engagement and support understanding.
  • Supporting the pupil's emotional regulation, wellbeing, and social skills development.
  • Encouraging independence and confidence through consistent praise, patience, and scaffolding techniques.
  • Helping the pupil navigate transitions and unstructured times (e.g. break and lunch), providing reassurance and routine.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experienced in supporting children with special educational needs in a school or similar setting.
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with children and act as a positive role model.
  • Patient, calm, and understanding, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexible and responsive to the needs of individual children.
  • Knowledgeable of (or willing to learn about) autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, or other common SEND presentations.
  • A valid, enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or willing to apply for one via Academics).
