Conduct intake interviews with juvenile offenders and their parents or guardians. Recruit students from local schools, including homeschools, to be volunteer MSYC attorneys. Teach (or make the necessary arrangements for teaching) the week-long law class. Responsible for grant writing and other administrative duties. Essential Duties The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.
- Evaluate cases referred to MSYC. Maintain case files and online database of referrals.
- Meet with juvenile offenders and their parents/guardians, perform intake interviews, schedule court hearings, and monitor completion of sentencing requirements.
- Recruit students to become MSYC student attorneys, teach (or assistant teach) the law class, coordinate participation in court hearings, and maintain database of volunteer hours.
- Organize attendance and participation of annual statewide conference, including arranging necessary travel.
- Write and submit State of Alaska grant application, as well as quarterly reports, through GEMS (grants electronic management system).
- Work with City of Wasilla Finance Department on budget requests and reports.
- Submit grant requests to alternative sources of funding, such as Mat Su Health Foundation and MEA Charitable Foundation.
- Engage in fundraising activities in coordination with student attorneys.
- Endeavor to provide ongoing legal training.

Experience, Education Certificates, and LicensesMinimum Education: Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Psychology or Sociology. Experience of five (5) or more years may be accepted in lieu of education. Minimum Experience: 4 years of progressively responsible related experience. Prior employment as a Police Officer or Probation Officer with experience in juvenile matters is preferred Minimum Certifications:
- A valid Alaska Driver's License
- A current driving record obtained from the state of Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles
