A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A YOUTH CARE ADVOCATE

Shift Schedule:

  • Sunday: 3:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Monday: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Thursday: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Friday: 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

As a Youth Care Advocate, you have the rewarding job of providing direct care to the youth at the Safe Place Shelter. You work with the youth to create routines, build positive relationships, and develop a framework for them after they leave our care. Acting as a mentor, you provide exceptional daily living assistance for each youth. This includes establishing foundational services, assisting with applications and homework, and facilitate proper communication. Additionally, you conduct daily activities for the youth based on their developmental ages and capabilities.

You perform behavior-shaping interventions, facilitate appropriate communications, model suitable problem solving, and help to ensure appropriate youth interactions. When necessary, you calmly implement trauma-informed care (TIC) strategies and provide interventions for maladaptive behaviors resulting from trauma. Your empathy comes through in your interactions with each participant that you work with. You always keep accurate records of daily activities and services provided in accordance with quality assurance and state licensing standards. Making a difference in the lives of youth gives you an incredible sense of purpose and that is why you love your job!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A YOUTH CARE ADVOCATE

  • Bachelor's degree along with 1 year of experience in mental health, social services, or a related field OR  2+ years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
